Akbayan SJSU was founded on three pillars: Social, Community and Political Affairs, and Cultural with the addition of Academics in 2015. With the fours pillars, the organization strives to give our members an opportunity to learn about the Pilipinx culture, develop a sense of community, achieve academic excellence, and embrace in friendship.

ACADEMICS

Hello everyone!

My name is Jade Esters and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a fourth year Psychology major with a minor in child development, and I am currently serving as your Academic Chair for the 2024-2025 school year! 

When I first came to SJSU and saw the Akbayan table for the first time, I knew that I had to join. Although hesitant at first, I was able to muster up the courage to go up to the table and ask about the organization. Since then, I got picked up by my ate in Luzonia during KAAMP Mahika, joined PCN 35: Hiraya Manawari, and was an Odyssey Intern. Since then I have met new people and experienced different events that allowed me to explore my interests and be where I am today. 

Outside of Akbayan, I enjoy dancing, reading, hiking, and listening to different music genres like K-Pop and hip-hop! I am always open to exploring new music, new hiking trails, or just to have a conversation, so reach out to me on instagram @jesters_03 if you ever want to talk :)
