Hey everyone! I am proud to be serving as your President for 2011-2012!
I’m currently a 5th year, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and minoring in Economics. This will be my last in Akbayan and at San Jose State because I’ll be graduating in the Spring! (Holla, class of 2012!) I started out as a L.E.G.I.T. intern 2 years ago, served as Treasurer for A Tribe Called Cab, and now President for The 35th.
I’ve lived in San Jose my whole life and have always been an East Side girl. I went to Arbuckle Elementary School, Lee Mathson Middle School, and Independence High School (Class of ’07! Let’s go Sixers!)
A little about me, I’ve always been a band geek ever since the 4th grade and I was heavily involved in the music program at the highschool. I started out playing the flute in the 4th grade, moved to the saxophone and bass guitar in the 7th grade, and stuck with the trombone since 8th grade. In highschool I was involved in orchestra, wind ensemble, marching band, musicals, and jazz band. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough time to do what I love, but whenever I have the chance, I’m always down to play for fun! (Watch me at PCN!) Other than music, I’m usually a busy girl with school, work, Akbayan, and my social life. I consider myself having great time management and a very organized person. I take care of my priorities before I have fun. When I do have time for a social life, I enjoy adventures and being with the people who mean a lot to me. Show me a good time and I’ll show you a good time :)
Being Filipino I thought I knew all there is to be Filipino, but when I joined Akbayan, I really learned and finally immersed myself into the beauty of our Filipino culture. Through Akbayan, not only did I learn about my culture, but I also learned about myself. I changed a lot throughout the 2 years I’ve been in Akbayan and I grew up to be who I am now. I used to be the shy type who didn’t talk much and never had the motivation to seize every opportunity that came my way. Now, I’m confident and not afraid to take chances whenever life hands me some. I’ve learned to try to live with no regrets and be happy with life!
As your President this year, I want everyone to have the same, if not an even better experience as I have. College will be some of the best years of your life and my cabinet wants to inspire all of you to find your purpose in life and to be the best person you can be for yourself and for others. Don’t hesitate to contact me or anyone on the cabinet for any questions or if you need someone to talk to! We’re here to make your college experience as awesome as possible!
