KAAMP Coordinator: Nea Nicolle Ignacio

Why, Hello! My name is Nea Nicolle Ignacio, but you can call me Nea(: I am your 2011-2012 Kuya Ate Ading Mentorship Coordinator!

Born in the busy city of San Francisco, I grew up in the next city over in Little Manila, Daly City attending one of those little private catholic schools. Yeah yeah its foggy because of the burning rice cookers-____- I am currently living in South San Francisco and have been for my entire life. For high school days, I was blessed to wake up every to take a trip to the city. I am currently doing the typical Pilipino thing with majoring in Pre-Nursing, but in the process of switching over to Occupational Therapy with possibly a touch of Child Development in there since I love kids. Yes, I am one of those who make funny faces to little kids that look at me. Found my love for kids because all my cousins are 9 years old and below. Yeah, I don’t get to do big kid things with them, but it doesn’t bother me that much because they’re my inspiration! (:

Now onto a little about of myself personally… I enjoy the busy streets of the city, which is one of the reasons why I chose to go to San Jose State. I don’t think I could ever go to a school in the middle of cow town just because I’m so used to the hustle and bustle of everything. And as for hobbies, I ‘d prefer to play some ball, throw a softball or bump a volleyball around than get a manicure and get my hurr did. I guess you can say I’d rather hang with the dudes. But a girls gotta be a girl sometimes and occasionally do some girl stuff. Like watch chick flicks! Because those are the main type of movies I like to watch =X Friends With Benefits, hands down one of the best!

Growing up in Daly City, one of the most Pilipino populated areas, I was never given the opportunity to learn about my own culture. It never occurred to me how important it was to learn about my roots until 18 years later in my life when I got to college. The fact that I could understand Tagalog is a big plus for me. However, as a second generation Pilipino-American not being able to speak my native language, is not something I am proud of. Someone teach me please!

As your Kuya Ate Ading Mentorship Program coordinator this year, my job goal is to create kuya/ate ading pairs that will build a relationship filled with unforgettable memories, as well as strengthen family bonds. After a year of college, you experience a lot. Why not have someone older teach you the ropes of the college life and academics to make it easier on yourself all while having fun!? That is exactly why you should join KAAMP!(: And that’s exactly what I want to do as a member of The 35th. I too want to teach you guys the ropes of college, inspire you to make a change in the community, and help you find your purpose in this world. So with all that, don’t feel afraid to approach me or anyone on the 35th! We’re here for you.
